Three Questions With: The Boulet Brothers

The Boulet Brothers descend upon Chicago this Wednesday, May 22, for the kick-off of their official Season Five tour. Featuring their winner and top four monsters, Niohuru X, Orkgotik, Throb Zombie, and Blackberri, this tour promises to be a horror spectacular. We caught up with the Queens of Darkness themselves for a quick question and answer about what their beloved uglies can expect out of this show and how it was developed! And lucky us, Dracmorda and Swanthula stuck around to answer a bonus question.

You spend a lot of time with your cast while you’re filming. What is it like taking that one step further and living on a bus with them?

Boulet Brothers: It’s a totally different energy because the competition is over, and this is their victory lap. This is a chance for them to show live audiences what incredible performers they are, and they no longer have to worry about being filmed or judged like they were on the show. It’s a celebration of them as artists, so it’s much less stressful and much more fun.

Are there any secrets or surprises you can share about the upcoming tour?

Boulet Brothers: Well one secret is that every time we have been on tour in the past, we have been in pre-production on a tv show. We would land in a city, get our computers out and work all day on production, and then get in makeup and perform all night. This time the tour will have our full attention, and we are thoroughly looking forward to it. There will be afterparties.

You’re recording your podcast in several cities on this tour. What is it like recording these live vs. recording them back in LA at a studio?

Boulet Brothers: It’s so much fun because the listeners are actually there and interacting with us. When we are recording in studio there’s no live interaction, so it’s just a different vibe. We feed off that live energy when we do the podcast on stage, and the whole thing usually degrades into something ridiculous.

How do you two decide which performance numbers you’re bringing on the tour together?

Boulet Brothers: That’s probably the toughest part of the tour! We always want to do a song or a show that we connect with, but we also want to give the fans what they want, and those things don’t always align. There are also two of us, so everything we do has to be extremely coordinated and rehearsed. We can’t just go out there and do whatever and just feel it in the moment because it would look like a mess.

In addition to their top four monsters from season five, The Boulet Brothers have curated a stunningly frightening guest lineup. Special guests include Jarvis Hammer, Sigourney Beaver, Saint, JayKay, Onyx Ondyx, Dollya Black, Koco Caine, Landon Cider, and Satanna.
