Three Questions With: Ginger Minj
Ginger Minj is headed back to Provincetown with Producer Entertainment Group to being her residency at the newly managed Art House. In collaboration with Fruitwine Productions, Minj will perform a nightly show from 8:00-9:00 Wednesday through Sunday, beginning June 22 and running through July 15. Broads’ Way 2: Electric Boobaloo promises to be a hilarious sequel to her show last summer with Gidget Galore. We were able to catch up with Ginger to chat about her time in Provincetown and what keeps her going back!
What about Provincetown makes you want to go back and perform every year?
It’s two fold for me: an extremely close knit community and an ever changing audience. Some of the best artists in the world (performers, artists, chefs, etc.) come together every summer to create an experience unlike any other for a new batch of folx every single week. It’s easy to settle in and discover new favorites without anything ever getting stale.
Walk us through what it looks like to develop a show you know you are going to perform over 100 times in a row?
First, it’s gotta’ be fun! We have a saying in our group that “if we have fun, they’ll have fun!” and we’ve learned that that’s absolutely true! We think of all the songs we’ve wanted to sing, all the costumes we’ve wanted to wear and carefully string them together in a way that gives us some tried and true laughs with enough wiggle room to change it up and just play with whatever the audience gives us. I love when every show is informed by its audience! If you keep it fresh, you’ll never get bored.
How do you make your P-Town shows unique year to year?
After four summers, we’ve learned that people come to PTown to relax, let loose and have a good time. We’ve got 25 incredible costume changes, 20 musical numbers to sing along with, a couple of games where you can win some fabulous prizes, audience cameos, and more laughs than you can shake a stick at! This show literally has everything.
Top 5 favorite places to patronize in PTown?
Sniffs of Adventure, The Nut House, Bubala’s (best chicken tenders in town!), Bruno’s Chop Shop and, obviously, Live at The Art House!
Are there any can't miss things folks need to experience in PTown after they see your show?
I always make it a point to take a whale watching tour. It’s overwhelmingly beautiful and a lot more moving than I anticipated.
